In this webinar, Catherine will explore technical strategies for seeking and procuring safer chemicals, based on an evaluation of intrinsic chemical hazards, authoritative listings, and consideration of data gaps. A globally-recognized method of comparative Chemical Hazard Assessment (CHA), GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals, will be described. GreenScreen has been used at all stages along the supply chain, to identify chemicals of high concern and safer alternatives. It informs materials procurement, product development, and EHS priorities. This method is used by organizations such as Hewlett Packard in considering chemical substitutions; HP used this method to evaluate flame retardants (non-halogenated options) and find replacements for phthalates that they were phasing out. Market drivers, tools, and successful case studies will be presented.
