Chrysoula Komis, PhD, MS, CIH, CSP, CHMM, RBP

Senior Scientist

Chrysoula Komis brings 30+ years of occupational health and safety consulting experience working with chemical manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, energy, food industry, foundries, and light manufacturing clients. Her lengthy tenure with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) provides an invaluable perspective in helping clients overcome regulatory hurdles. Dr. Komis’s specialties include guidance on Voluntary Protection Programs (VPPs), hazard assessment, safety and health auditing, chemical hazard information, training, and ergonomics evaluation.

 

Dr. Komis holds a doctorate in industrial hygiene and toxicology and a master of science in industrial hygiene from Drexel University. She earned a bachelor of science in environmental science and biology from Marist College. She is a Certified Industrial Hygienist, a Certified Safety Professional, a Certified Hazardous Materials Manager, and a Registered Biosafety Professional. She is also an adjunct professor at Temple University in the Departments of Public Health and Civil and Environmental Engineering.

 

Dr. Komis began her career as a pharmaceutical chemist with Whitehall Laboratories. From there, she began a 30-year stint at OSHA Region III that included roles as compliance officer, industrial hygiene supervisor, and regional industrial hygiene coordinator. For a brief period in 1983, she left OSHA to join the U.S. Department of Agriculture as an occupational health and safety manager and returned to OSHA as the industrial hygiene supervisor in the Philadelphia Area Office. For her last eight years with OSHA, she was the Region III VPP manager and a VPP Team Leader conducting VPP onsite evaluations.
